genesis in the hills home

“Creativity is a type of learning process where the teacher and pupil are located in the same person” –Arthur Koestler

Creativity stands at the heart of our approach and undertakings.

As Genesis in the Hills began to take form early in 2004, we invited visual arts students from a Western Australian university to create environmental sculptures to the theme of ‘genesis’. Through collaboration with the university, the students created original sculptures as part of a formal assessment.

The students initially attended themed workshops, with presenters as varied as Jungian Analyst and music-reviewer Sally Kester; Wongi Aboriginal storyteller Josie Boyle; and Gardening Australia’s Josh Byrne giving a permaculture perspective.

The students then worked at the property for several months to produce extraordinary environmental sculptures that continue to be enjoyed by Genesis visitors today.
